MSCW summons parents for taunting daughter

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 17th Apr: Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has summoned the parents of a young woman who published her photograph in a local daily along with condescending words, to present themselves before the Commission on April 21 at 11 am.
On Thursday, a newspaper clipping of a photograph of a woman accompanied with the said comments went viral on social media.
Speaking in this regard, Commission chairperson Meinam Binota recounted that the young woman in question had filed a complaint to the Commission around two months ago. She (complainant) said that she was being harassed by her parents and sought the help of the commission, while further urging that she be allowed to live with her husband.
The case was heard and both parties had resolved all differences amicably. However, the case is yet to be closed. Amid this, the parents of the complainant published her photograph in a local daily along with some taunting words, the chairperson added.
As such, both the father and mother of the complainant have been summoned to the Commission on April 21 at 11am. If any such similar advertisements are found published in the local dailies, the editors of the said dailies would also be summoned, Binota cautioned.
