KCP shares thoughts on COVID-19 pandemic
IMPHAL, 12th Apr: The proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has extended revolutionary greetings to entire people of Manipur on the outfit’s 40th foundation anniversary which falls on April 14.
The outfit also extended its sincere appreciation to frontline COVID-19 fighters like scientists, doctors, nurses, paramedics and those working directly and indirectly in healthcare sector with dedication.
While extending revolutionary greetings to all the revolutionary groups of WESEA as well as to CSOs, intellectuals, media and well-wishers, the outfit said that this year’s anniversary celebration will be held in a solemn manner due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The celebration will be limited to offering of floral tributes and salute to martyrs who laid down their lives during the course of liberation struggle for Manipur and WESEA region.
On the occasion, KCP president Ksh Laba Meitei also shared outfit’s thoughts on COVID-19 pandemic, its impact and racism vis-à-vis the pandemic in India.
According to Laba, COVID-19 initially known as Coronavirus originated from Wuhan city of Hubei province in China in November, 2019 and spread to other countries like Iran, South Korea, Japan and Italy. World Health Organisation (WHO) named the virus as COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) while International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses called it SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus). In its latest research findings, Scripps Research Institute pointed out that COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 is naturally occurred epidemic and not originated from laboratory and scientists of countries like US, UK, Australia and other nations closely studying the epidemic agreed the findings. The disease spread to many countries and WHO eventually declared it a pandemic on March 11, 2020 and then ‘Sixth Public Health Emergency’ of the globe on March 30. Still, the pandemic is yet to be tackled effectively and spreading like wildfire throughout the world as no vaccine/medicine has been produced so far and it is likely to kill millions of people around the world, Laba said adding that the ongoing fight is against COVID-19 and not amongst human beings.
The KCP chief also said that the only way to defeat the pandemic is to stand collectively with firm determination and there should be no differentiation of caste, religion, rich or poor and enmity at the present crisis. In complete contrast to this call, some countries are cooking up conspiracy theory on COVID-19 to save their super power status. Some Western countries alleged China of developing the virus in a laboratory for use as biological weapon and leaked while Russia, Arab and Syria alleged that the virus was developed by joint collaboration of the US and Israel as a biological weapon and spread to China. Laba also asked if there is any worth of spreading rumours and cooking up conspiracy theory on the present crisis when entire human race need to stand united and fight the pandemic collectively to save human race.
While pointing out differences in dealing with the pandemic between socialist system of government and capitalist, the KCP leader said COVID-19 pandemic has proven that human beings cannot survive collectively without having socialist system and society.
Elucidating this claim, Laba said capitalist governments around the world are struggling to tackle the pandemic though socialist government in China effectively tackled it.
The message of the KCP leader made available to media houses by outfit’s secretary-in-charge of information & publicity S Mangal further said that COVID-19 pandemic and its adverse impact on economy is not the lone battle for WESEA people as they have to face racism in mainland India. Apart from calling them ‘Chinky’, ‘Momo’, ‘Ching-Chong’, WESEA people are now called ‘Corona’ at various places in mainland India and there had been numerous incidents in this regard very recently.
While terming Coronavirus as a virus of value free and has no differentiation of social-class, race, religion, Laba said clubbing COVID-19 and racism at the present crisis is not a sign of civilised/developed society or people and it should not had been done at all. The KCP leader maintained that those spreading the virus are neither Mongoloid nor Caucasoid nor Negroid.
