Trucks headed for Chassad village

IMPHAL, 7th Apr: The truck burned down by a mob near Shangshak village in Ukhrul district belonged to 1st battalion Manipur Rifles and was transporting food items and construction material to Chassad village in Kamjong district, said police sources. Maintaining that six trucks were transporting food items and materials for construction of security posts for state forces at Chassad village in the aftermath of inter-village clash that took place last month, the sources informed that the trucks left Imphal on Tuesday around 9 am along with security escorts. Upon reaching the area, which is located at a distance of around 9 km from Shangshak towards Kamjong, the mob which was already waiting there stopped the column. They snatched key of the trucks and burnt down one of them. As soon as the report was relayed, additional forces stationed at Chassad village and SP Ukhrul rushed there and controlled the situation. There is no report of any arrest being made over the incident till the time of filing this report.
