State records highest number of lockdown violations
IMPHAL, 6th Apr: Around 1038 people and 722 people were detained, while fine amounting Rs 80,100 in total was collected during the lockdown being enforced to contain further spread of COVID-19.
Following the state government’s order on Sunday for a total lockdown in the entire state including closure of markets and all grocery stores, wholesaler & retailer as well as vegetable vendors till April 12, the state witnessed an increase in the number of lockdown violators on Monday.
Thoubal district saw the highest number of violations, as the district police detained 360 people and seized 170 vehicles.
According to a police report, Imphal West District Police detained 243 people and impounded 207 vehicles from various areas of the district during the lockdown period, and collected fine amounting to Rs 19,800 in total. In Imphal East, the district police detained 136 people and seized 123 vehicles, and collected Rs 12,300 in total as fine. In Bishnupur District, 100 people and 63 vehicles were detained and while a fine amounting to Rs 10,000 was collected; in Thoubal District, 360 people and 170 vehicles were detained, while a fine of Rs 22,400 in total was collected; in Kakching District, 77 people and 62 vehicles were detained and a total fine of Rs 10,500 was collected; in Churachandpur District, 66 people and 62 vehicle were detained; in Jiribam District, 12 people and 5 vehicles were detained; in Kangpokpi District, 24 people and 24 vehicles were detained and a total fine of Rs 1000 was collected; in Senapati District, 3 persons and 2 vehicles were detained and a total fine of Rs 600 was collected; while in Tamenglong district, 7 people and 4 vehicles were detained and a fine amounting to Rs 3,500 in total was collected, the report conveyed.
