TDC warns drivers, 39 loaded trucks cross Jiri
IMPHAL, 5th Apr: Taking serious note of the incident of some truck drivers attempting to smuggle in some non-locals amid the nationwide lockdown for fighting COVID-19, Transporters and Drivers’ Council (TDC) has urged all the highway truckers to refrain from bringing in any person, especially during such crucial time.
Speaking to some media persons, TDC president H Ranjit said that there is restriction on entry of non-locals after the introduction of ILPS regime in the state. Moreover, there is a nationwide lockdown with strong restrictions on movement of public and inter-state travel to prevent community transmission of the deadly virus in the country. So, it is unfortunate for the truckers to bring in non-locals during this crisis period, he said while urging truck owners to give strong instructions to their drivers against such illegal acts. On the other hand, maintaining physical and social distancing by the transporters while carrying out their services is a must to prevent the viral infection. They should strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the government and they must understand that they have important role to play in containing the pandemic, he added.
Meanwhile, a total of 39 loaded trucks carrying edible items and medicines will be reaching Imphal soon as they have departed from Jiribam on Sunday.
About 100 loaded trucks will depart Jiribam for the state capital on Monday.
According to our correspondent, Jiribam police is taking up strict measures at Jiribam bridge, railway area and Leingangpokpi area. The police personnel are also patrolling along waterways and inland areas to prevent infiltration into the district.
