Govt seeks help of NGOs, CSOs

IMPHAL, 3rd Apr: Conceding that the government needs assistance of all concerned to fight COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has called upon NGOs and CSOs to extend help to the government in containing the situation.

In an office memorandum issued Friday, special secretary (Home) Gyan Prakash said the pandemic has brought tremendous hardships to the state and the country necessitating a lockdown. The state machinery has been taking actions to enforce the lockdown, treatment of confirmed cases, institutional quarantine of high risk cases and home quarantine of lower risk cases, provision of essential items, distribution of relief, enforcement of social distancing.

However, the assistance of NGOs, CSOs would be required for which the government seek details of such organisations that have the capacity and are willing to assist the government in its fight to control the spread of COVID-19 and also in mitigating some of the hardships of the people, the memorandum said.

It then informed such bodies to send their details such as name of organisation, registration number, address, contact person & contact details including phone number & email, type of assistance (financial, manpower or material), geographical area of assistance to shomemanipur@gmail.com.

Deputy secretary (home) Dr Th Charanjeet has been appointed as nodal officer to receive the details of the NGOs, CSOs and also to coordinate their assistance with the DCs, the office memorandum stated.

Meanwhile, in another order issued on Friday the special secretary (home) has appointed joint secretary Ravinder Singh, deputy secretary Peter Salam and ASPD/SSA T Phullen as nodal officers and detailed for duty at the central control room at the CM’s office to assist nodal officer Arthur Chiphang. 

On the other hand, NCC Group HQ Imphal has issued instructions to the respective battalion commanders of NCC to make necessary arrangements of NCC volunteers for utilisation in the fight against COVID-19. The instruction mentioned district-wise responsibility for coordination and execution of NCC Yogdan exercise – 33 for Imphal West, 6 for Imphal East, 31 for Kakching, 29 for Kakching, 32 for Bishnupur, 21 for Thoubal and 16 for Churachandpur districts.
