No sign of setting up Langthabal quarantine centre

IMPHAL, 3rd Apr: Even though Chief Minister N Biren has inspected Langthabal Phumlou Loukol on March 30 to build a 200 bedded quarantine centre within 15 days, there is no possible sign of initiating construction of the proposed quarantine centre in the area.

It may be recalled here that the Chief Minister along with various officials inspected the area of Langthabal Phumlou Loukol, Imphal West to construct a 200 bedded quarantine centre for keeping suspected patients of COVID-19 to reduce the spread of the disease. The CM had also instructed the officials to complete the construction and inaugurate it within 10 to 15 days which would later be a government hospital after the pandemic crisis is over.  However, there has been no sign of initiating the construction work on the proposed 200 bedded quarantine centre. The construction site which would be around one hectare was found bordered with small red flags when inspected.

Following the announcement made by the CM, people and organisations of the area had voiced reservation against the construction of the quarantine centre. According to reliable source, two meetings were conducted between people of Langthabal Phumlou Loukol and CAF&PD/Revenue Minister, who is also the MLA of Lanthabal AC. During these meetings, people made it very clear that they are not against the construction of quarantine centre in the area but it should be demolished right after the pandemic crisis is over.
