36 undergo test for COVID-19, 24 confirmed negative


IMPHAL, 3rd Apr: Following confirmation of the second COVID-19 positive case in the state from Lilong Haoreibi on Thursday, 36 people who were exposed to the male patient underwent testing for COVID-19 at RIMS and JNIMS on Friday, of which 24 of them tested negative.

According to reports, the swab samples of the patient’s wife and ten children were taken at RIMS on Thursday and conducted the required testing on Friday. A second test was carried out on Friday afternoon for confirmation.

On top of this, 24 people including 18 staff members and six others who were in contact with the patient while he was being treated at Peace Hospital and Research Institute, Porompat Muslim Road were swabbed at JNIMS on Thursday and tested on Friday. All 24 of them tested negative for COVID-19.

Mention may be made here that the patient’s family and Peace Hospital staffers were asked to report to RIMS and JNIMS for testing after contact-tracing. Peace Hospital has been designated as a quarantine centre and its staffers are currently being quarantined at the hospital. However, 11 family members of the patient are being quarantined at Darul Uloom, Lilong.

On the other hand, RIMS Prof Dinesh, who is currently overseeing the second COVID-19 patient, said that patient is undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of RIMS. The patient’s health condition is stable and he is able to breathe freely without any technical support, he added, while informing that a meeting of top doctors of the hospital was conducted on Friday to combat the disease as efficiently as possible. 

Meanwhile, JNIMS director Prof Th Bhimo informed that the condition and temperature of the first COVID-19 patient of the state is stable and normal. 

 On the other hand, as per the latest status update of the District Surveillance Unit, IDSP, Ukhrul on COVID-19 in Ukhrul district; 4 people were screened on Friday. The cumulative number of persons under surveillance is 255, while 144 are under home quarantine. 101 people have completed the mandatory 14-day observation period and the number of people being kept in the quarantine centre is 4. Only one sample was sent for testing till date, the result of which has already been received.
