Don’t re-elect MLAs not distributing allotted rice: Shiva Sena
IMPHAL, 2nd Apr: Terming as disgraceful to learn about controversies arising over distribution of rice to public during the Covid-19 lockdown, Shiv Sena Manipur president N Tombi called upon the people to ensure that any MLA who is not distributing the allotted rice is not be re-elected.
Addressing a press meet at the party’s office at Babupara on Thursday, N Tombi exhorted that it is time that everyone comes together to fight Covid-19 keeping aside their differences.
“Only when all the 545 Lok Sabha MPs, 245 Rajya Sabha MPs and 4,123 MLAs of the country join hands, can the disease be uprooted from the country,” he said.
Stating that his party supports the 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, N Tombi, however, lamented that even though the state government had assured free distribution of 4 kg of rice per person and 20 kg of rice to families with minimum five members, there has been serious lapses and disparity in the quantity of rice distributed at the ground level.
He observed that in such a situation question has arisen as to what will happen to the leftover rice? The MLAs, who are not providing the allotted rice should never be elected again. It is shameful that such incidents have surfaced during such life threatening situation, he said, adding that all the MLAs should distribute the allotted rice to the people.
