Govt mulls firm steps to fight COVID-19
IMPHAL, 2nd Apr: Following detection of one more COVID-19 positive case in the state, chief minister N Biren Singh convened a joint meeting with all the ministers and officials of health department to strengthen measures being taken up to fight the pandemic.
According to a reliable source, the joint meeting held at CM secretariat Thursday was convened to chalk up more stringent measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 after a 65-year-old man from Lilong tested positive of the virus in addition to the young woman who is currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS hospital. The man from Lilong who tested positive of the virus had attended the religious event at Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.
As there is possibility of the man spreading the virus to other people, government has taken up stringent measures to prevent spread of the highly contagious disease and Thursday’s meeting even discussed about keeping all those who were in contact with the man under observation and quarantine if needed, the source said.
As the national lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi till April 21 is likely to be extended, the meeting discussed ways to mitigate suffering of the people in such a situation and also about providing essential items at the doorsteps of every family, the source added.
Meanwhile, health department spokesperson Dr Kh Shashikumar informed through a press statement that necessary measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 have been initiated after a man from Lilong who attended a religious event at Delhi’s Nizamuddin tested positive of the virus late Wednesday night. To prevent further spread of the disease, government machineries have taken up measures to contain the disease particularly in the area where the man resides, he said and appealed to all those who were in close contact with the man to inform COVID-19 control room through telephone No. 1800-345-3818 (toll free).
