Newspaper hawkers to resume service

IMPHAL, 31st Mar: After a week-long halt, Manipur Hawkers’ Association has decided to resume its service from Wednesday.

In a release, association general secretary Laikhuram Surjit explained that the decision to cease work was taken as a precautionary measure against spread of COVID-19 pandemic and express concern over the inconvenience faced by regular newspaper readers. While informing all members of the association for resuming their services from Wednesday, Surjit asked all hawkers to take all possible precautionary measures to contain COVID-19. Surjit further appealed to all members for collecting hand sanitizers provided by the association in front of The Sangai Express. 

Urging all hawkers to maintain physical distance while collecting newspapers from respective press houses, he also appealed to all press houses for arranging required number of print copies ahead of time so as to prevent unnecessary crowding. 

Informing that hawkers collect newspapers from respective publishers by making advance payment, he requested all consumers to clear their due fees. In view of the tense situation prevailing in the state due to the lockdown for containing coronavirus pandemic, Surjit appealed to authorities concerned to ensure security forces and law enforcing agencies do not interfere in the work of newspaper distributors and hawkers.
