One Kg rice grain distributed to K Ponlen villagers

Kpi. Mar 30: Contrary to the central government’s announcement to deliver at least five kg of rice grains to any citizen holding voter cards, only one Kg of rice grain was distributed to the voter card holders of K Ponlen village under Saitu constituency, Kangpokpi district, claimed All Manipur Students’ Union Manipur (AMSU).

In a statement, AMSU stated that a team of the recently formed Mangal Task Force on Monday conducted a survey if the local people are enjoying the welfare benefits purportedly extended by the government amid the lockdown period so that public do not suffer from want of basic needs. 

While informing that more than 300 complaints have been received from different areas of the state regarding anomalies in distribution of PDS items to the people, the union informed that maximum of the complaints were received from Imphal West district.

So far the union has received complaints from local bodies of Haobam Marak, Keisamthong Aheibam Leikai, Sagolband Moirang Hanuba, Sangaiporou Sadokpam, Uripok Sinam Leikai of Imphal West district and it is reported that at Sora village, citizens who do not possess voter cards were not given the rice allocation. It is further reported that at Wabagai area of Kakching district 5/5 kg of rice grain were distributed, the Union informed and urged authorities concerned to address the matter.
