YFPHR petitions PM on racial attacks
IMPHAL, Mar 30: Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India with regard to the continuing racial attacks of North East people in many parts of the country since the outbreak of COVID-19 in India.
In a release, forum president Kh Phajaton informed that through the memorandum, the PM was briefed on recent cases of racial attacks on North Eastern students just because of having a distinct Mongoloid features similar to Chinese and demanded justice for the victims.
Denouncing social labelling and insult of NE peoples as “Corona” or “Corona Carrier”, YFPHC drew urgent attention of the PM and requested him to direct the Chief Ministers and Home Ministers of all the states to ensure protection, shelter and food to North Eastern people who are facing the discrimination and ill-treatment.
Further, the forum urged the PM to direct all the state authorities to start monitoring and keep strict vigil against such racial profiling.
Demanding justice for the victims, the forum urged the PM to direct all states to book the culprits and punish them according to the rule of law and to establish 24X7 helpline services for North East People in all the states in India.
