BJP leaders extend help to migrant workers
Imphal, March 30: With uncountable number of people, especially the daily wagers, facing severe hardships due to the 21-day lockdown enforced across the country to break the chain of coronavirus, BJP leaders distributed edibles to those hit hardest by the on-going curfew in the state.
In sync with BJP national president JP Nadda’s advice to all units and mandals of the party to ensure that no one suffers on account of the restrictions imposed on venturing out of their homes, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president Jyotin Waikhom led members of Thangmeiband mandal in handing over food packages to over 40 migrant workers settling in the commercial hub of the capital city on Monday.
The food distribution initiative, which will continue till April 14, was also participated by Imphal Municipal Council Ward Number 25 corporator Sujata Phaomei and other active party workers.
Noting that there are many migrant workers who could neither venture out to continue their livelihood activities nor leave for their respective home states subsequent to imposition of the nationwide lockdown, Jyotin fervently appealed to the financially sound business community settling in the commercial areas to shoulder the responsibility of providing two-square meals to at-least five migrant workers during the lockdown period.
