Imphal, March 29: Claiming that some excess amount of PDS were are not distributed to the people of Khurai assembly constituency, social activist Laitonjam Jayananda has demanded the authority involved to clarify on the whereabouts of the missing rice.
Addressing a press meet at Khurai on Sunday, Jayananda said that the total allocation for Khurai assembly constituency is 1805.95 quintals as per report received from the district supply officer of Imphal East. The authority distributed 4 kg of rice per voter. As per latest electoral roll, there are 32,500 electors in the constituency and the rice allocation is enough for distribution at 5.5 kg rice per voter. By this calculation 50,500 kg of rice could be termed as missing, he said.
On the other hand, NFSA beneficiaries of the constituency are being deprived of their PDS rice for the last seven months due to failure in submitting utilisation certificate by the individuals concerned since September last year. Expressing concern over the matter, he appealed to the authority concerned to take up necessary measures and provide the backlog rice allocation to the beneficiaries considering the hardships they are facing due to the lockdown initiated by the state government.
