Over 300 lockdown violators detained
Imphal, March 29: Over 300 individuals have been detained by the police across several districts of the state for violation of the ongoing lockdown and curfew imposed by the Government to combat the spread of coronavirus and COVID-19 across the country.
According to a police report, a total of 157 lockdown violators were rounded up by police personnel of several Police Stations in Imphal East. A total of 25 non-FIR cases were registered before executive magistrate and the violators were made to pay a fine of Rs 2500. Furthermore, the police impounded 155 vehicles.
The police also appealed to general public to extend cooperation to the district administration and the police during the lockdown and curfew. The police also urged the public to strictly follow the guidelines when buying essential items and supplies such as shopping for each family to be done by only member, not to engage in panic buying, to travel to shops on foot, not loiter for unspecific reasons and to practice social distancing. Moreover, it is informed that any individuals found violating the lockdown will be arrested.
Meanwhile, Thoubal District Police detained 203 violators of public curfew and lock down from different areas of Thoubal district on Sunday.
A total of 77 persons from areas under Thoubal Police Station, 51 from Lilong, 24 from Yairipok, 21 from Khongjom, 21 from Heirok and nine from Nongpok Sekmai police stations were detained.
All the detained persons were produced before the executive magistrates concerned and were imposed fine.
