Newspaper distributors urged to resume service
Imphal, Mar 28: Expressing strong condemnation against alleged harassment and discrimination of newspaper distributors by certain section of the society, Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council has urged all concerned to refrain from such outrageous conduct and appealed to the newspaper distributors to resume their service.
While appreciating role of the newspaper distributors in disseminating information to the public even under extreme circumstances for the past many years, the Council opined that the spread of Covid-19 could be contained only when the people are made aware of the preventive steps prescribed by the health authorities.
As the masses need to be updated regularly on Covid-19 related developments and periodical preventive measures announced by the government, the newspaper distributors have a vital to play in checking spread of the disease, said Council president N Bimol Meitei, who suggested that the state authorities take up necessary measures to ensure disturbance free movement of the newspaper distributors.
He also conveyed gratitude to personnel of health department, Manipur police and all involved in the battle against Covid-19 for their concerted efforts to prevent further outbreak of the deadly disease in the state. The president also affirmed that the Council volunteers are fully prepared to assist the government in the fight against the disease.
