Allocation made for 42,556 quintal rice for public distribution
Imphal, March 28: The CAF&PD department has made allocation for 42,556.70 quintal of rice for distribution to the public during the period of lockdown being enforced to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subsequent to the allocation, FPS agents of several assembly constituencies have already lifted the rice from the FCI warehouses and started distribution. However, agents of some assembly constituencies are yet to lift the allocation due to various reasons including non-availability of labourers. As some had started distribution, there are multiple complaints from different areas over the way the rice is being distributed.
Chief minister N Biren and works minister Th Biswajit had stated that the government would provide rice allocation for the month of April in advance at free of cost not only to beneficiaries of NFSA but also CMHT card holders. Though the government assured 5 kg of rice per head, there are reports of differences in the distributed amounts of rice at different localities.
On the other hand, there are also complaints over delay in distributing the ration even after several days of the lockdown.
