Welcomes tribunal’s judgment, ready to fight by-poll: Shyamkumar
Imphal, March 28: Accepting the judgment of the Speaker's Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly disqualifying him, The Shyamkumar said that he welcomes the tribunal’s judgment and he is ready to fight the by-election for his constituency Andro as and when the ECI declares the date.
Addressing media persons in his official residence here on Saturday, Shyamkumar said that though he has been disqualified, he feels happy that he got disqualified for pulling down an authoritarian government which ruled the state for several years. He was disqualified as per the Constitution of India and he as a law abiding citizen welcomes the verdict.
He said that he is also grateful for the people of Andro assembly constituency who elected him as their representative. Election Commission of India will soon fix a date for the by-poll and he is all set to contest the by-poll, he said while urging the people of his constituency to continue their support to him.
He further said that he does not have any grudge against anybody including the petitioner as they filed the petition as per law and this types of things happens in politics. He had already said when he was expelled from Congress party for six years after he joined BJP that he will face any outcomes of his decision, he recalled.
Unfortunately some individuals are spreading rumours that he cannot fight election as he has been disqualified for violating the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India. Asking all to read the order of the Speaker's Tribuna as well as the interim order of the Supreme Courtl, he said that there is no mention of restricting him from contesting election. Only those who are convicted for crimes are not allowed to contest election, he said.
Shyamkumar also appealed to all to join the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and urged everybody to stay home and stay safe.
