Christian bodies appeal for peace

IMPHAL, 16th Mar: An emergency meeting of the apex Christian bodies namely Tribal Christian Leaders’ Forum (TCLF); All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO); Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) and Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) held at MBC HQ Imphal on Monday has made an appeal for maintaining peace and calm.
According to a joint release of KBC, MBC, AMCO and TCLF, the meeting began with a prayer by Rev Dr Hawlgam Haokip, invoking wisdom and guidance from Christ who taught us to love one another.
After receiving feedback and updates from many sources, it was learnt, that the land dispute is the issue of the recent violent clash between Chassad and Sampui villages of Kamjong District. The members present expressed profound grief at the loss of valuable properties in both the villages and shared sympathy and deep concerned for the victims, it added.
The release appealed to the villages, especially the elders, community, social and church leaders to meet and discuss the issues for amicable settlement as Christian brothers and sisters. In the larger context of the Covid-19 pandemic engulfing the world and making us all vulnerable, the Christian leaders, urged to exercise utmost restraint and further abstain from violence and not to flare up the issues to make it communal or add ethnic tone. It further stated that the members present at the meeting are earnestly praying and appealing to all Christian brothers and sisters of all the communities for those affected and afflicted to depend on the strength from above and solidarity to work towards a dialogue and imbibe the rule of law, uphold Christian brotherhood and sisterhood in solving the disputes. The members present, wish all those involved in bringing amicable solution as doing a great service for all and a great example of reconciliation and peace, the release added.
