‘Movies every weekend at MSFDS hall’
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 25th Nov: The third edition of Sangai International film festival, which is being organised as part of the annual mega Manipur Sangai Festival, commenced from Saturday at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound here with art and culture minister L Jayantakumar attending the inauguration function as chief guest.
Speaking at the function, minister Jayantakumar announced that after conclusion of the on-going Manipur Sangai Festival, movies would be screened in the society’s auditorium every weekend.
Though the minister did not specify about the films proposed to be screened, he conveyed that decision to screen movies was taken after consulting the chief minister as well as taking into consideration complaints about the MSFDS auditorium remaining mostly unutilised.
Expressing confidence that the decision to screen movies every weekend will enable the state masses to relax for few hours after toiling through the weekdays, Jayantakumar pledged to make concerted efforts for promoting Manipuri art and culture, including cinema.
Mentioning that the state government has been according top priority in sustaining the development the Manipuri films, he also assured that the numerous proposals received for framing a policy to promote films will be accorded importance and considered positively.
Regarding the Sangai International film festival, which will continue till November 29, minister Jayantakumar opined that the event is an opportunity for filmmakers and artistes of Manipuri films to get an idea about the vision and working style of internationally renowned directors and learn from their experiences.
Art and culture commissioner M Lakshmikumar presided over the function. Iranian film titled ‘Two Legged Horse’ kicked off the festival.
