Municipality status for Lilong, Andro assured

DIPR/STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL,12th Nov: MAHUD minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Sunday assured that Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Imphal West and Andro Nagar Panchayat, Imphal East will soon be upgraded to the status of municipality.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Shyamkumar informed that the cleaning/dredging process of riverbeds of different rivers, including those running through Langthabal Assembly Constituency, will begin from December-January.

Stating that his department had already submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Centre for deepening the riverbeds in the state, the Minister admitted that he was aware of the problems being faced by the people due to overflowing of rivers during incessant rains.

He said that the new government is committed to working for the welfare of the people and that the allegations levelled against Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam are baseless.

He remarked that levelling such allegations without evidence should be refrained, as it is detrimental to the development process.

Observing that truth cannot be covered up forever, Karam Shyam said that people should refrain from using character assassination tactics in order to mislead the public against elected representatives and for the people to judge their representatives on the merit of their work.

Ministers Shyamkumar and Karam Shyam also distributed prizes to the winners of essay and painting competitions that were held as part of the campaign. Robin Blackie, Treasurer of BJP State Manipur Pradesh and S Sanatomba Singh, Vice Chairperson of Lilong Nagar Panchayat along with Councillors and students of various schools and people of the constituency attended the function.
