MCPM imposes general strike on Nov 5

IMPHAL, 3rd Nov: Imposing a general strike on November 5 effective from 5am till 5pm, Maoist Communist Party Manipur (MCPM) has appealed to people of Manipur to support the strike by suspending their normal services on the said day. According to an MCPM statement, the general strike has been called as part of the outfit’s movement for ensuring proper distribution of PDS items to genuine beneficiaries, which has become a popular with participation by various sections of people apart from peasants. The outfit is compelled to impose the general strike as the minister looking after distribution of PDS items remain as a mute spectator when called for action against those siphoning off rice and SK oil meant for poor people, an MCPM statement issued by its standing coordinator Kyonghan Mangang said. The outfit also informed that the week-long mass movement for protection of indigenous people is ready to be kick-started from November 11 as scheduled and nearly 1000 volunteers have come out to extend help in making the movement a success.
