Keibul Lamjao integral part of Sangai Fest: Biswajit
DIPR IMPHAL, 29th Oct: While inspecting road conditions in Thanga and Moirang areas ahead of Manipur Sangai Festival, state government spokesperson minister Thongam Biswajit Singh Sunday informed that there has been no change in the decision to have Keibul Lamjao as one of festival venues.
Sangai festival 2017, will be held at three different venues including Hapta Kangjeibung, Lamboi Khongnangkhong and Keibul Lamjao, minister Biswajit said while meeting with members of Joint Action Committee formed against the reported shifting of the opening ceremony of Sangai Festival from Keibul Lamjao.
He also assured the JAC members that there is no question of shifting the venue from Keibul Lamjao.
Biswajit observed that Keibul Lamjao is a historical place and is of utmost importance to the state. Keibul Lamjao will be a venue of the Sangai Festival and 25 stalls including food stalls will be set up and if the need arise the number of stalls will be increased.
However, the inaugural function will be held at Hapta Kangjeibung, he said citing the convenience in preparing the inaugural function at Imphal as the function will be attended by several high profile guests including the President of the country.
Stating that Keibul Lamjao will hosts state events till the end of the festival, the minister also invited the locals and the JAC to share suggestions and ideas if they have any for adding to the programmes to be held at Keibul Lamjao.
The Minister, who was accompanied by Moirang MLA P Sarat, Thanga MLA T Robindro, Chief Engineers (Works) Kh Temba, inspected Moirang-Sendra Road, approach road to Takmu Water Front Resort, and roads in Thanga Tongbram Leikai.
Briefing media persons at Keibul Lamjao after the inspection, Minister Biswajit said that repairing of roads and mending of potholes will be completed ahead of the festival. Preparation for road repairing is already completed and the government is sure of fulfilling its commitment to complete repairing of all roads at the earliest if the weather permits.
He further said that Sunday’s inspection visit was part of the BJP led government’s commitment to bring development and improve road connectivity in the entire state including rural areas.
Earlier, chief secretary RR Rashmi along with MIDA vice-chairman M Asnikumar assessed condition of the roads of Imphal Moirang -Keibul Lamjao- Thanga -Sendra route.
He also visited Keibul Lamjao Makha Leikai Club Ground, Keibul Lamjao National Park IB-II and Takmupat where different events of Sangai Festival would be held. He was accompanied by senior officials of forest, tourism, power departments, MIDA, LDA and DC & SP of Bishnupur district.
The chief secretary also interacted with residents of Keibul Lamjao area. The misunderstanding between the government and local people of Keibul Lamjao on the modalities of organising upcoming Sangai Festival were cleared after the interaction. Later the team visited Takmupat and reviewed the preparation works over there for a unique Lake View Cultural Show, which is going to be showcased as part of the Festival.
It may be noted that Chief Minister N Biren had already held different rounds of meetings for the smooth conduct of Manipur Sangai Festival. A "curtain raiser" ceremony would be held at Keibul Lamjao along with a half marathon participated by approximately 2000 athletes on November 19. The programmes will continue till November 21.
On November 22 and 23, there will be a unique Lake View Mega Cultural Show at Takmupat based on traditional cultural ethos of Manipur with special reference to Loktak Lake.
