Labour row sparks Imp-Moreh transport stir

CORRESPONDENT KAKCHING, 23rd Oct: Denouncing the stricture imposed by Indo Myanmar Labour Union on loading and unloading of goods on vehicles at Moreh town, drivers of vehicles plying along Imphal-Moreh route have stopped their services from Monday.

Agitating drivers informed media persons that Indo Myanmar Labour Union imposed certain restriction on loading and unloading of goods on vehicles plying along Imphal-Moreh route. As per the restriction, goods carried on any vehicle at Moreh cannot be loaded or unloaded without the presence of the Union members and this has posed untold miseries to drivers of vehicles plying along the route, they complained.

From early Monday morning, irate drivers started blocking vehicles plying along the route at Kakching Lamkhai. Due to restriction imposed by the union, many vehicles are currently stranded at Moreh as they were disallowed to upload goods, the drivers said and appealed to authority concerned to do the needful to resolve the matter at the earliest.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of problems being faced by the drivers due to the tussle over the labourers' issue in Moreh, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers & Motor Workers’ Union has appealed to the authority concerned to resolve the matter at the earliest.

In a statement, the union informed that owing to certain dispute in Moreh most of the truck have been stranded in the border town.

The union also warned of launching agitation if the issue is not resolved at once. Appealing to the authority concerned to resolve the matter, JAC Imphal Moreh Road Transporter’s Association also warned of launching different form of agitations by joining hands with civil organisations of the area.
