MLA Mirabai calls for mass participation in Panchayat meets
IMPHAL, 17th Oct: While stressing the need for mass participation in discussion relating to development at grassroots level, Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai has said that a Panchayat or a state would develop only when people share their thoughts and suggestions during Gram Sabha meets.
Addressing a gathering at 2nd special Gram Sabha meet organised under the theme ‘Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas’ by Changangei Gram Panchayat at Toubungkhok Thursday, Ak Mirabai said that people should share suggestions during development related discussions held at Panchayat level. A Panchayat or a state would develop only when people actively take part and work collectively on Panchayat related activities, she said, and appealed to people to give more priority to Panchayat.
While disclosing that 25 percent of fund from line departments allocated to Patsoi MLA continue to be handed over to elected persons of Panchayat and Zilla Parishad, Ak Mirabai said that she had never intervened in Panchayat related fund and activities and the fund is mostly utilised in road development and irrigation. She also expressed hope that roads in Patsoi assembly constituency would be improved if fund from Panchayat are utilised for WBM works as black topping of such roads would be easy to take up with MLA’s Local Area Development fund.
On distribution of PDS items in Patsoi AC, Ak Mirabai clarified that she had never intervened in distribution of PDS items and officials concerned are working to provide shares to every beneficiary properly. She also disclosed that a proposal for construction of a water supply scheme at Toubungkhok Makha Leikai under Changangei GP has been submitted and construction of the same would begin soon.
Changangei GP Pradhan L Roma Leikai, who presided over the Gram Sabha meet, said that most of the development works in the GP were taken up by elected persons from their own sources before sanctioning fund. She also said that preparations for waste disposal and making the GP plastic free have been made.
The Gram Sabha meet was also attended by Changangei ZP member Sinam Marjit Singh, BDO Patsoi Samson Huidrom and ward members.
