Ningol Chakkouba Festival Expo begins
IMPHAL, 17th Oct: A 15-day long 'Ningol Chakouba Handlooms and Handicrafts Expo 2019' which is being organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd (AWAS) began at GM Hall here from Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration function, Textiles, Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary P Vaiphei highlighted the value and demand of Manipuri handloom and handicraft products in other parts of the country and abroad.
Appreciating AWAS for organising the expo, he maintained that regardless of marketing challenges that weavers face in selling their products, the attached value and qualities are well appreciated by others. Due to perseverant work and talented labour of Manipuri weavers, the state holds an important position in the field of handloom and handicrafts, he added.
The programme was attended by AWAS president K Indira, Weavers’ Service Centre assistant director (Design) C Rjasekaran, Handicrafts Service Centre assistant director Th Rajen and National Handloom Development Council Ltd assistant manager (Commercial) Y Shantikumar as presidium members. In all, 70 stalls are displaying their fine artistic work of handloom and handicraft at the exhibition.
