Local club to ban heavy vehicles from Oct 21
JIRI, 17th Oct: Miffed by the government’s failure to repair the dilapidated Uchathol Road that connects several villages with NH 37 from Gularthol area, Uchathol Pioneer Club has resolved to ban entry of heavy vehicles on the road from October 21 onwards until the road is repaired.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, club secretary Y Romen said that the road is full of mud during rainy season and dust during dry season. As a result, people commuting and residing along the road have developed many health issues while people of the area especially school students are facing severe hardships for long.
The main reason behind the deterioration of the road is constant transportation of construction materials for Jiri-Tupul Railway track by NF Railway. They had written to the state government as well as NF Railway for repairing the road but no initiatives have been taken up till date. As such, a recent public meeting took the decision of banning operation of heavy vehicles along the road from October 21 unless the government or the NF Railway take up steps for repairing the road by October 20, he said.
Club president K Ratankumar and finance secretary N Heramani along with several local people attended the press meet. Later, the club members showed the condition of the road to the media persons.
