Villager authority warns of shutting down water supply

CHRONICLE BUREAU
IMPHAL, 16th Oct: Thangjing Chiru Village Authority has warned of ceasing operation of Thangjing Chiru Heibilok Water Supply Scheme in response to the failure of the Government to turn into action what was promised to the villagers.
In a joint release, secretary of Thangjing Chiru Village Authority and chairman of JAC pointed out that the villagers had donated the land for the water supply scheme in 1987 following a request made by then MLA Deben, Imphal East executive engineer and assistant engineer of that time who promised job opportunities to the residents.
However, so far residents of the area have not received any benefit from the scheme other than posting of one Chowkidar and had approached the minister concerned regarding the same on multiple occasions but all efforts have been in vain and the residents and village authority have not resorted to shutting down the water supply in consideration of the people who are depending on it.
Nonetheless, if the Government does not take up befitting steps and address the concerns of the people, they will permanently cease operation of the water supply scheme, the joint release stated.
