Monsang students exhorted to strive for excellence

IMPHAL, 13th Oct: Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Students’ Union), Imphal celebrated its silver jubilee under the theme ‘Proclaim the Favourable Year of the Lord - Luke 4:18’, at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong on Saturday.
ADC Chandel member Sh Manglem, SUR president Ng Gilbert and STS Imphal founding president Ng Benithan attended the celebration as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. Ng Benithan recalled the establishment of STS Imphal in 1994 when the need was felt to have a common platform and encouraged the student community to make serious efforts for achieving their goals. Ng Gilbert recollected that Monsang people living in Imphal during 1950-60s and said that to be successful in education one should surrender and sacrifice certain hobbies and strive for different professions to progress as a nation. ADC member Sh Manglem emphasised on the significant roles of students in the nation building process. He encouraged and challenged the student fraternity to pursue competitive examinations while at the same time calling for coordination of different groups and individuals for various common goals.
A souvenir was also released as part of the event that was marked by colourful cultural presentation such as folk songs and dances and felicitation of meritorious students.
