Manipuri Poetry Day observed

IMPHAL, 13th Oct: Fiction and Poetry Club, Imphal organised Manipuri Poetry Day 2019 at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall, Yaiskul Police Lane here on Sunday. Manipur Information Commission’s state information commissioner Dr Ibocha Soibam and Fiction & Poetry Club Imphal advisor professor Nahakpam Aruna attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Imphal College principal Dr Moirangthem Priyobrata and Ayangleima Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society Limited managing director Laishram Victoria were present as guests of honour. Reprint of Dr Lamabam Kamal’s poetry book ‘Lei Pareng’ published in Bengali and Meetei Mayek, and 15th edition of the club’s biannual journal ‘Khorirol Chefong Mapao’ were also released on the occasion.
Writer's Association Kakching and Scheduled Caste Children's Cultural Dance Academy Kakching also organised the Manipuri Poetry Day along with 59th Study Circle at Kakching Khunyai Leikai. Retired teacher Yengkhom Bihari, Writer's Association Kakching president retired professor Naorem Ibotombi, Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching president Kengba Yengkhom, Scheduled Caste Children's Cultural Dance Academy Kakching president Naorem Sanahal, and Macha Chanu Kakching president Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini attended the commemorative event as presidium members.
Retired ZEO Pukhrambam Nimai and retired principal Pukhrambam Kunjo spoke on Manipuri Poetry Day, which was followed by a poetry meet.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Jiribam also observed the day at Raja Rammohan Roy Library hall. Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited vice-chairperson K Saratkumar and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Jiribam president S Khogendra were chief guest and president respectively of the programme while ADC Jiribam Nongmaithem Bankim and ZEO Jiribam Th Amurashi attended as guests of honour. Parishad general secretary Sarat Thokchom spoke on Manipuri Poetry Day while Jiri College professor Dr N Bijaya and assistant professor Nandeshwari Hijam spoke on Dr Kamal’s life and literary works at the event. Romio Moirangthem’s poetry book ‘Nungshiba amasing Ningtam Lanmi’ was also released at the function during which a poetry meet was also held with participation of writers from Jiri and Cachar.
