MICAN calls for saving paddy fields
IMPHAL, 12th Oct: Meetei International Civic Action Network (MICAN) has appealed to all concerned to stop structural constructions at paddy fields in Imphal valley.
In a release, MICAN coordinator Athouba Meitei, while recounting various initiatives taken up by the network to save paddy fields in the state, appealed to join hands with in its “Mission Sanaleipak” campaign to safeguard the cultivable lands from exploitative construction of big buildings, hospitals and installation of other structures by a few capitalists.
Asking all to halt the on-going constructions that started after September 1, 2018, Athouba maintained that individuals or organisations should comply with the provisions of Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetlands Act, 2014 and must take prior approval from state level committee before starting any activity on limited paddy land available in the valley.

Appealing to people, media and administrative heads of the state, Athouba urged all stakeholders to cooperate in MICAN’s move to save paddy lands so as to ensure food security in the state.
