Upokpi Khunou incident unfortunate: GP member
BISHNUPUR, 12th Oct: While terming the October 6 mob violence incident at Upokpi Khunou in Bishnupur as very unfortunate and noting that joint efforts are needed to prevent such incidents in future, Nachou Zila Parishad member Th Dilip Meitei has appealed to authority concerned to release all those arrested in connection with incident.
Addressing a press conference jointly organised by Kha Potshangbam Meira Paibi, clubs, organisations and local leaders at Kha Potshangbam Saturday, Dilip Meitei said that the husband of the woman thrashed by the mob leads a simple life and earns livelihood by pulling a rickshaw. Local people are fully aware of the woman’s immoral activities after her husband leaves home to win bread and butter for the family and there had been many incidents of her husband beating her up for immoral behaviour, Dilip claimed, adding that local people were compelled to take the extreme act in view of woman’s total disregard of the public sentiment and concerns. However, Bishnupur police arrested 14 people including four men in connection with the mob incident and many of the arrested women have young children to care for, he pointed out and appealed to authority concerned to release all the arrested persons on humanitarian ground without any condition.
