Rhythms of Manipur troupe impresses Tirumala audience
IMPHAL, 12th Oct: A 11-member troupe of the Rhythms of Manipur which was on a five-day tour to Venkateswar temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh in connection the annual Srivari Salakatla Brahmotsavams-2019 from September 30 to October 8 returned here on Friday.
The tour and performance of the Rhythms of Manipur troupe which was sponsored by the Department of Art and Culture, was appreciated by the audience and organisers for their exhilarating pung chollom performances.
The team led by Rhythms of Manipur secretary Rajkumar Sanatomba performed Manipuri Nata Sankirtana Pung and procession at the festival from October 2 to 6.
The festival organised by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams was participated by over 39 cultural troupes from across the country including two from Manipur, the other being JNMDA Sankirtana group.
During the festival, idol of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy and Sri Malayappa Swamy were carried in and around the temple by four elephants and four horses every day in the morning and evening amid devotional troupes chanting sacred hymns for about two to three hours.
Tirumala Venkateswar temple is regarded as the richest and most visited temple of the world.
