AR recovers IED, exploded

CCPUR, 12th Oct: A remote controlled IED was found planted between Leisang and Kaprang villages near Johar Champhai along Imphal-Churachandpur (Tiddim road) road early Saturday morning.
The IED weighing around 10kg including 800gm TNT slabs and 6kg RDX planted under a recently completed culvert was detected by troops of 25 Assam Rifles. The IED was remote controlled with 16 AA batteries and one electric detonator found attached.
Soon after detection of the bomb, traffic movement along the highway was halted by security forces till the bomb was removed by bomb experts. For safety, nearby residents were also told to stay away from the site while electric supply in the area was suspended briefly.
Later, a team of bomb disposal squad safely defused the bomb after several attempts and exploded the same at a safer location near Muolvum village at about 1.20pm.
