UKIYO literature festival underway
IMPHAL, 11th Oct: UKIYO Literature Festival, a two-day long festival of literature, has commenced from Friday at Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Imphal with interaction programmes with several renowned writers and artists from across the country.
During the opening ceremony, ‘Lamai’, the UKIYO art magazine was released jointly by festival organising team representative Martin Thokchom, renowned Indian writer Jerry Pinto and editor of the magazine Parul Tayenjam.
Regarding the festival, Martin said that UKIYO is a Japanese word which means ‘living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life’. The festival is being organised with the hope of giving some respite from the worries of life besetting the people of the state through literature, he said.
He opened UKIYO Book Store at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai on October 11, 2018. Unlike other book stores, it has only books of literature. Initially, Martin said, he did not expect much readers of literature in the state but expressed elation that it turned out to be untrue. He also informed that the festival is a joint effort of literature loving individuals.
Apart from sale of acclaimed literature works of Indian and foreign writers, the festival will also host talks and interaction with renowned Indian writers and artists, he added.
