Court pronounces man guilty in kidnap case

IMPHAL, 11th Oct: Th court of Special POCSO judge, Imphal West has declared one Hemam Rajesh guilty of kidnapping and confining a minor girl under IPC Section 366-368 and Section 4 of POCSO Act.
During the final hearing of the case conducted on September 27 last, the court had reserved the judgment but declared Rajesh (29) son of Kameshwar of Moirang Konjengbam Leikai guilty when the judgment was pronounced Friday.
Investigation of the case began after victim’s mother filed a report at Singjamei police station that her minor daughter could not be traceable after she went out from home on April 6, 2016. After completing investigation, IO of the case submitted charge-sheet under IPC Section 366-368 and Section 4 of POCSO.
As per charge-sheet submitted by the IO, Rajesh kidnapped the minor girl and confined her at two different locations for around 20 days. Later, a team of Thoubal police commando rescued the minor girl and arrested Rajesh, who was later handed over to Singjamei police station.
During the trial of the case, statements of 14 prosecution witnesses were recorded but no defence witness was brought out.
After studying arguments from both sides, the court declared Rajesh guilty and fixed October 17 for conducting sentence hearing.
