Thangmeiband to cease work on Oct 14

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 10th Oct: Enraged by the state government’s failure to hand over the death case of Ningthoujam Babysana to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an insightful investigation and pave the path for swift justice to the minor student who was found dead hanging inside the hostel dormitory of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, the joint action committee (JAC) formed against the mysterious death of the girl student has announced that normal work in Thangmeiband AC will be ceased for 24 hours with effect from 6 am of October 14 to remind the government that patience of the JAC is running out.
Addressing a press meet at THAU Ground here on Thursday, JAC convener Laishram Gyaneshwori conveyed that a joint meeting of clubs and women’s groups based in Thangmeiband organised by the committee on Wednesday at 4 pm resolved to intensify the ongoing agitations against the failure to deliver justice to Babysana.
She informed that the meeting unanimously resolved to sustain the ongoing agitation till the demands served by the committee to the state government are fulfilled and support the agitation by civil society organisations which took part in the meeting.
The organisations are All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj; Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup; Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup; Kabui Mothers Association; Thangmeiband United Club; Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup and Iramdam Kanba Lup.
Gyaneshowri said that the JAC has been demanding the government to abolish the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Manipur police department and hand over the case to the CBI as the former is incapable of solving the case but the demand went unheeded.
Claiming that statements of 161 kinsfolk of Babysana are yet to be taken for reasons best known to the government only, she said that what the JAC wants is proper investigation into the sexual assault against Babysana as mentioned in the second post mortem report.
She vowed that the JAC will continue to launch various forms of agitation till the government solves the case by handing over the case to the CBI to unearth the precise cause of the student’s death without taking much time.
