28th World Mental Health Day observed widely

IMPHAL, 10th Oct: National Health Mission, National Mental Health Programme and Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch jointly observed the 28th World Mental Health Day at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) auditorium here on Thursday.
Speaking at the observance function as chief guest, Principal Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) and State Health Society State Mission Director Vumlunmang Vualnam asserted that capacity building of health care providers is imperative in dealing with cases of mental health and they should always give special care to people who are afflicted with mental disorders as they are prone to commit suicide due to personal problems, family issues and social factors.
He observed that there is a need for health care providers including trained psychologists, psychiatrists and specialised institutions to intervene in the traumas faced by mentally sick people and ensure their proper treatment so that they are not influenced by suicidal tendency.
Presided over by Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch president Dr S Manikanta, the observance function was also attended by JNIMS director Dr Th Bhimo; Medical Care additional director Dr P Shyamsunder; NMHP state Nodal Officer Dr A Ranita and Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch secretary Dr S Gojendra as guests of honour.
The 28th World Mental Health Day was also observed by All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) under the aegis of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West at its office located at Uripok Cheirap Court wherein AMBA president advocate Maibam Nilachandra spoke on the significance of observing the day. The event was also attended by AMBA vice-president M Karamchand and ex-president A Indrakumar as presidium members while advocate Kh Iboyaima and RIMS Psychiatric Department head Dr RK Lenin were the resource persons.
District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West in collaboration with Legal Aid Clinic, Changangei, Uchekon under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority observed the day at Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei Ucheckon with Sessions Judge, Imphal West RK Memcha who is also the chairman of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West attending as chief guest. Centre for Mental Hygiene secretary Ch Pishakmacha and project co-ordinator advocate N Nongpoknganba were present as president and guest of honour respectively.
As part of the observance function, simple gifts were presented to inmates of the centre.
THOUBAL: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Thoubal in association with Legal Aid Clinic Thoubal observed World Mental Health Day under the theme ‘suicide prevention’ at Kullachandra Children’s Home for Mentally Ill Boys at Langathel Moirang Leikai in Thoubal district on Thursday.
Family court Thoubal judge Salam Imocha, children home superintendents Paochunlung Panmei & Khundrakpam Debala, and DLSA Thoubal secretary Achom Tarunkumari attended the programme as presidium members. Gifts were presented to inmates of the children home. Advocate Md Zakir Hussain spoke on ‘Legal services for mentally ill and mentally disabled persons’; clinical psychologist Miranda Yendrembam on ‘Suicide prevention and importance of life skills education for adolescent’; and advocate Kh Babita on ‘general law’ as resource persons.
