Himmatkumar presents paper on organic agriculture in Vietnam
IMPHAL, 10th OCt: Green Foundation, Imphal chief executive officer Urikhibam Himmatkumar presented a paper and power point presentation on the topic, ‘Indian Agricultural Produce Traceability System’, on the second day of the ongoing workshop, ‘Application of Smart Organic Agriculture Modules and Traceability System for Agriculture Products’, being held at Hanoi, Vietnam.
The workshop, which began on October 7, and jointly organised by Asian Productivity Organisation, Tokyo and STEMAC, Hanoi, would culminate on October 11. During the workshop, Himmatkumar, who is also the sole representative from India, informed the gathering about the various initiatives taken up the National Centre of Organic Farming under the Agricultural & Process Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare with regard to Indian Agricultural Traceability System, under the auspices of Ministry of Commerce & Industries. He also spoke about the 2017 report of the London-based market research company, Ecovia Intelligence that labelled the organic food industry as 97 Billion US dollar industry. However, many non-organic products are being sold to consumers as pure organic products. As such, he emphasised on the emerging importance of differentiating between organic and non-organic products, while stating that workshop would be of great help on the said matter.
