AMSU bans election of Johnstone Hr Sec Students’ Union

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 9th Oct: All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Imphal West District Committee president Thokchom Basanta has announced ban on the upcoming election of Johnstone Higher Secondary School Students’ Union, stating that the ban would stay in place until all procedures are carried out truthfully.
Speaking to newspersons at AMSU head office here Wednesday, Basanta said that the notice for filing nomination forms for the election was issued only on Wednesday and the nomination papers are to be filed only from 11 am to 1pm of same day.
Any student of the school who wishes to contest the election has the right to file the nomination forms, regardless of previous problems, and the candidacy has to be determined on the day of scrutiny itself, the president added.
However, when one Ayekpam Chainangamba, who is studying in Class XII Arts, tried to file his nomination papers within the stipulated time, the principal of the school forbade him from doing so.
This is a clear violation of his rights, Basanta contended. Similarly, class XII science students James Ngangbam and Phundreimayum Tanweer Khan were not allowed to file their nominations.
Such acts would not be tolerated and thus, the scrutiny proposed on Thursday cannot be conducted, Basanta said and added that the ban would stay in place until all election process is done honestly as per the norms.
