Another body found during rescue operation in Jiri River

JIRI, 8th Oct: The joint search and rescue operation conducted to trace whereabouts of Louriyam Jerry, who went missing after jumping into Jiri River in Kalinagar area, led to the discovery of another body from an area downstream.
Jerry went missing after he jumped into the river in a bid to confront another group of youth from the opposite side of the river, who shouted slangs towards him and his friends on Monday afternoon around 3 pm. A team of Jiri police station led by OC L Khogen conducted search and rescue operating till late midnight using speedboat but yielded no result.
On Tuesday morning, an NDRF team from Assam joined the search operation along with Jiri police and local people. However, Jerry’s body could not be found till the time of filing this report.
Jiribam MLA Md Ashab Uddin, DC Jiribam Mayanglambam Rajkumar, SP Moirangthem Mubi and Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited vice-chairman K Saratkumar along with several government officials also visited the site and assessed the situation. The NDRF team would be continuing the search on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, additional police teams were stationed at Jirimukh and nearby areas to see if the body of Jerry, who is feared drowned, washed up downstream. However, instead of finding his body, the police team found another dead body at Baiboni area of Jiri River on Assam side. Soon Assam police was alerted, who recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College for post mortem.
Police source said that deceased was one Moirangthem Bikerjit (22) son of M Sarat of Jiribam Kalinagar, a constable posted at Jiribam police. He went missing about three days ago. His body had started to decompose, the source added.
