Three held, drugs worth Rs. 3.13 cr seized

IMPHAL, 8t Oct: Imphal West commandos apprehended a drug dealer along with 3.136 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 3.13 crore in the international market from Paobitek Mayai Leikai, Imphal West district on Monday around 3 am.
The CDO team led by DSP (Ops) Karthik Malladi, DSP CDO Thomas Thokchom, Imphal West CDO OC inspector P Achouba, inspector SR Shimray and SI Gunachandra Chanam carried out a search operation in the area following specific information. As the team approached the house of the suspect, one person, who later identified himself as Md Sattar alias Ithem (47) son of Md Tombi of the locality sounded false alarm of police personnel coming to harass the family members.
Alerted by the alarm, the owner of the house Bogimayum Tanish Khan (30) son of Md Nizamuddin fled but the CDO team rounded up Md Sattar. In the meantime, some local people gathered there but were convinced by the CDO team on their purpose of the operation. With their cooperation, the CDO team searched the house in the presence of Md Sattar and independent witnesses from the locality.
Upon checking, one black plastic bag with the brown sugar weighing 3.136 kg was found outside the back door of the house. Two small plastic sachets each weighing 10 grams marked as Original Sample B and Duplicate Sample C were found inside the bag while the rest of the drugs were packed in a plastic bag marked as Parent Sample A weighing 3.116 gram.
Md Sattar was arrested on the spot and the brown sugar was seized. The arrested person along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Wangoi police station for further legal actions.
On the other-hand, a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur nabbed two drug peddlers along with 10 Kg of Opium from Tangjeng Lamkhai near Sugnu around 4.10 pm on Monday.
According to a police statement, the arrest was made when the team of NAB acted upon receiving a tip-off from a reliable source about the illegal activity. The two individuals who were caught with the illegal substances have been identified as Thangjalet Khongsai (34) S/o Holkholen Khongsai of Tuisamphai Village in Chandel district and Thongjahao Doungel (29) S/o Mangsei Doungel of T Tuinom Village in Kangpokpi district. Along with the illegal substance, one unregistered ANBO Bike and other incriminating items were recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered at Narcotics and Affairs of Border Police Station and investigation is going on, the statement added.
