Rally taken out against drug trafficking, abuse

IMPHAL, 7th Oct: Yumkhaibam Athletic Development Association (YADA) under the sponsorship of Manipur Friendship Organisation took out a rally on the theme ‘Ending drug trafficking and Drug Abuse in Kshetrigao’, followed by conduct of a public meeting at Khergao Junior School ground on Monday.
The rally was flagged off by Kshetrigao AC MLA N Indrajit and was participated by Imphal East District SP Jogeshchandra. The rally was taken out through Ayangpalli road and then along Porompat DC road before culminating at Khergao Junior School ground. During the rally, various placards inscribed with slogans like, ‘Eliminate Drugs from Kshetrigao’, ‘Stop earning money by killing people’, ‘Time to save the people from drug menace’ and ‘Stop sale of illegal drugs in Kshetrigao’ were displayed.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the rally, MLA Indrajit expressed hope that the ongoing initiatives taken up by the state government against drugs would soon be able to eliminate the drug menace in the constituency. He said that police alone could not control the drug menace and need the support of the people.
He then urged drug traffickers to abandon their illegal activities and instead try to become self-employed by taking up legal activities, while assuring to extend all possible help from his side in this regard.
Imphal SP Jogeshchandra lauded the initiatives of YADA club against drugs and expressed hope that it would inspire others in the fight against drug menace in Kshetrigao. He then informed that similar rallies would be held in various areas of Imphal East, and the district police would extend all possible help in carrying out door-to-door awareness against drugs.
