Missing youth feared drowned

JIRI, 7th Oct: A 21-year old youth remains traceless and is feared to have drowned in Jiri River in Kalinagar area in Jiribam district on Monday.
The missing youth has been identified as Louriyam Jerry, son of late L Jiten of Jiribam Kalinagar Part 1.
Sources said that along with some of his friends, Jerry was camping near the river on Monday. After lunch, some people from the other side of the river shouted some slangs towards them.
Infuriated by the invectives, Jerry jumped into the water in an attempt to confront the people on the other side but got drowned midway. His friends tried to rescue him but failed due to strong current of the river.
After his friends raised an alarm local people gathered at the spot but all fretted from jumping into the river due to the strong current. The local residents could be seen gathering at the river bank till late evening.
Jiribam police led by SP and other officers as well as DC Jiribam also came to the spot.
Meanwhile, local people have denounced lack of proper equipment for rescue operation as well as rescue team while drawing attention of the government to improve its emergency response services.
