Assam Manipuris urge MP Dr Ranjan to oppose CAB
SILCHAR, 6th Oct: Manipuris in Assam under the aegis of Manipuri Youth Front Assam (MYFA) have urged Lok Sabha MP of Manipur Dr RK Ranjan to oppose CAB among other various demands.
MYFA submitted a memorandum to the inner Manipur MP during a felicitation function of the MP hosted by Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (AMSP) at Silchar in Assam on Sunday. AMSP vice-president KN Chand presided over the function attended by Dr Ranjan as chief guest while local eminent personalities like L Gourababu, IS Thingom, L Veerjit and Saikhom Komlakanta attended as guests of honour. AMSP, Manipuri Benevolent Society, and MYFA presented gifts to the MP along with submission of the memorandum.
Speaking at the event, MYFA president Seram Herajit highlighted the hardships being faced by the Manipuris, which include Meeteis, Meetei Brahmin and Meetei Pangal, and the threat to their language, culture, tradition, religion and identity in the state. In the memorandum, MYFA urged the MP to oppose Citizenship (Amendment) Bill considering the uncertain fate and existence of the indigenous people of northeast. It also urged the MP to make Lengonnabi Pat (Nara Bil), which has close historical importance with Seven Years Devastation, an ecological park; set up a campus of Manipuri Cultural University in Silchar; introduce Silchar-Imphal direct flight service; Manipur Bhavan in Silchar; include dropped out Assam Manipuris in NRC; cultural integration and autonomy of Manipuris living in India; identification of Assam Manipuris as an indigenous community of Assam; and objection to Bishnupriya community from inclusion under central OBC.
Later, Dr RK Ranjan assured to put his best efforts towards fulfilling their demands at the central government level. He also assured development of Lengonnabi Pat as an ecological park as well as other historical places in Assam related with Manipuris.
