Manipuri Poetry Day observed at Dimapur
IMPHAL, 4th Oct: Department of English, St Joseph University, Dimapur observed Manipuri Poetry Day-2019 with a poetry recital programme on Friday. This was a curtain raising programme of the observance to be held on Meragi Purnima (October 13).
The programme held under the theme “Open Mic/Poetry: Manipuri Poetry Day ‘19” was held at the university auditorium. The event included a recitation of original poems by BA and MA English students of the university.
Convened by Manphoa Konyak, Department of English Students’ Association president, the programme was participated by 15-20 students from both postgraduate and undergraduate courses. The poetry recited was diverse and vibrant ranging from ruminations on life and death to body-shaming and body politics, from love, disillusionment and depression to the future of Naga youth.
Manipuri Poetry Day is being observed in honour of the life and career of notable paragons of Manipuri literature and pay homage to the rich and unique literary tradition of the region. This year, 3rd Manipuri Poetry Day is going to be observed in Manipur as well as in other states and countries where Manipuri speaking people reside with the aim of popularising and exposing Manipuri literature to the broader world.
