Nutrition month observance concludes, fair winners feted
KANGPOKPI, 4th Oct: Valedictory ceremony of the month long Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) conducted under the aegis of Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi was held on Friday at the council’s conference hall in Kangpokpi town.
In Kangpokpi district, Rashtriya Poshan Maah – which is a flagship programme of the NDA government, was launched by ADC Sadar Hills chairman Haokholal Hangshing on September 24 with a seminar cum consultation on operational aspect of the Mission at the office chamber of the council’s vice chairman.
As part of the observance, various welfare activities were conducted in the district including a trial food mela on September 30 and Swachhta Hi Seva (Cleanliness Drive) on October 2 where a pledge was also taken for ‘Plastic Free Kangpokpi District Headquarters’ along with the local town committee.
The valedictory ceremony was marked by distribution of prizes to winners of the food fair by chief guest ADC chairman Haokholal Hangshing and other dignitaries including vice chairman Thangjakam Misao, ADC-SH CEO T Manihar Singh and KTC chairman Lunseh Kipgen.
The programme was also attended by councillors of the ADC, executive members and members as well as employees of the council.
Mao Daili Stall bagged the first position while Laikoiching Stall and KWWO Stall secured second and third position respectively of the tribal food mela. The winners were awarded cash prizes while all other 20 stalls opened in the mela were presented consolation prize during the function.
In his address, Haokholal Hangshing said that aims and objectives of Rashtriya Poshan Maah could be fulfilled only with the cooperation and support of the masses.
He also conveyed gratitude to all the denizens of the district for their exceptional cooperation and support during the nutrition month.
While informing that the plans are afoot for organising a cultural event in the district, the chairman appealed all sections of the society to ‘enthusiastically’ participate in the proposed event so as to promote the diverse culture and traditions of various communities in the district.
Presenting the activities report, DI (HQ) SHADC Kangpokpi, Thangjalal Touthang, who is also the Nodal Officer of Rashtriya Poshan Maah in the district, said that during the National Nutrition Month apart from various other welfare activities, promotion/plantation of drumsticks/medicinal plants at EMRS, Gamnom Saparmeina was also conducted in the presence of representative from Ministry of Tribal Affairs on September 26.
He continued that display of hoardings at Motbung, Saparmeina, Leimakhong and Kangpokpi were also executed while free medical camps were conducted at various educational institutions in the district apart from sensitisation of all students on the importance of hand washing before eating and after using the washroom.
Meanwhile, Manihar Singh lauded cooperation and support extended by the general public towards the time bound initiatives of SHADC Kangpokpi in observing the National Nutrition Month and appealed for further strengthening the government-public relationships.
