15 courtiers honoured with ceremonial shawls
IMPHAL, 4th Oct: In continuation of customary traditions, Angom king Rosoraj Mani on Friday presented ceremonial shawls to fifteen exemplary courtiers of the royal court including those of Tanyeiba Loishang, Panji Loishang and Karigore-Kwakshang during a function held at the hall of Manipur Pandit Loishang of Govindajee Temple, Palace Compound here.
Speaking at the occasion, Angom king Rosoraj Mani said that the art form of Pena is an integral part of Manipuri culture. Presently, Pena is popular among the younger generation with many young men and women learning to play the instrument, which is an important part of folk music. As such, the ceremonial shawls were presented to the courtiers for their contribution in the preservation of the art form and as encouragement, he added.
The 15 courtiers who have been honoured are Thongbam Premjit Meetei, Salam Nabakanta Singh, Yumnam Ranbir Meetei, Thokchom Dinamani Singh, Sagolsem Shyamkumar, Sanasam Udhop Singh, Wangkheimayum Homendro Singh, Leimapokpam Mani Singh, Elam Shyamkishore, Soibam Jayanta Singh, Takhellambam Ranchandra Singh, Rajkumar Surjit Singh, Huidrom Brojen Singh, Nahakpam Dipu Singh and Ngangom Norendrajit Singh.
