‘World is united to counter climate change’
IMPHAL, 4th Oct: Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar led a tree plantation programme as part of the Green Manipur Mission at Mongjam village under Heingang AC in Imphal East district on Friday.
The programme was organised by Forest Department at the area which is a part of Heingang Reserved Forest. Disc Jockey, Soda from South Korea also participated in the event.
Addressing media persons, Shyamkumar asserted that today the world is united to fight against the climate change without any division on the basis of nationality, caste, creed, culture or profession and said that the tree plantation drive was held to consolidate the idea that the world is united for saving the environment.
He said that immensely talented artiste Soda taking part in the tree plantation is a testament that the whole world is united for the conservation and preservation of the environment. He also appealed to all the stakeholders to come forward and contribute towards saving the environment for better future of the younger generation.
DJ Soda said that she is enjoying her visit to Manipur and appreciated the pleasant weather condition of the state. She said that the natural environment adorned with birds and trees is joyful to observe. She informed that she does not use air conditioner and focuses on minimum usage of electricity as an effort to conserve the environment. The plantation drive was also attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force K Angami and his team including Chief Conservator of Forest Th Mohendra Pratap Singh, villagers of Mongjam among others.
